March 2020

What are we learning from this highly contagious virus that has touched and continues to impact all our lives in one way or another? It does not discriminate; neither by race, nor by faith nor religion or philosophy, by gender nor by age, nor by station in life.

From the richest to the poorest, every human on the planet is at risk of being infected or infecting others and many continue to succumb to it. It cares not who you are or where you come from, if you live in a mansion, a cardboard box or somewhere in-between, how high or low your IQ may be, how well or unwell you are educated, what you do or don’t believe. It has enslaved us, forcing each and every one of us to change our way of life, and the way we have become accustomed to live. We have literally been kicked out of our comfort zones and the sound of the bursting bubbles we have encased ourselves in reverberates all around….

What collective lessons are we learning here, about ourselves, about who we truly are, what our true individual purpose is? How do we treat each other and in turn ‘allow’ others to treat us by perceiving ourselves as either superior therefore entitled or inferior therefore accepting our lot in life as an unchangeable truth?

Have we learnt to create a balance between what we need in order to live a comfortable, healthy, joyful life, or a greedy, dishonest and self-indulgent one and the rest be damned? Will we continue to stubbornly hold onto the belief that the particular God we pray to is the only true God and therefore the God that will conditionally come and save only us in this or any other crisis? Or are we willing to embrace the idea that in spiritual truth there is no us and them and regardless of the name we choose to call Him by, that in truth Her hand covers all, see’s all, answers all, protects all, heals all and whether or not one believes, still unconditionally loves us all?

Since the beginning of time it has taken many wars of us against them – man against man – religion against religion – race against race, rich against poor. These wars have always presented us with the opportunity to learn the lesson of our own humanity, our true compassion and to mirror our own prejudices and yet most have not learnt it if unless it touched us personally – unless it reached our door or our shores.

This is a different kind of war, one that has reached all our own doors, all of our shores whether or not we agree with or condone it. Not man against man, nation against nation, religion against religion, and not a war declared by any one tyrant or nation. This is a war alright! A declaration made by an invisible, indiscriminate enemy against all mankind with no exceptions…. A war that all the weapons of destruction nations have been feverishly inventing and hoarding in preparation to use against their enemies – an arms race that has been lost and rendered useless in this dire time of need. This is a war that is urging us to take honest, unbridled stock of what truly lies within us – is it darkness or light – do we lie dormant or awake – conscious or unconscious?

Will we finally learn the lesson now? Is this the war, the wakeup call that will finally bring us to our proverbial knees so that that we finally accept, acknowledge and embrace the idea that we are all one regardless, whether we have made the free will choice to walk in darkness or in light?

That we are - regardless of faith, nationality, race or station in life – all deserving children of The Divine All That Is, that we are a Universal family of misfits, imperfect and dysfunctional human beings? That we are indeed spiritual beings merely having a human experience with the free will to choose how we walk this journey? That our every action - or lack thereof – good or bad will leave a ripple that will ultimately reach every corner of this planet? A planet that we do not own any piece of but rather are merely it’s temporarily custodians?

Are we not all – every single one of us either walking this earth or leaving it today, at this very time and space, here for a higher purpose? Are we not perhaps willing participants taking part in whichever way we choose to fulfil a collective sacred contract to invoke a massive and overdue shift of consciousness on our plane of existence?

Is this not perhaps yet another opportunity we have all been presented with to either engage in totally destroying or saving this planet and all mankind by our individual participation and contribution be it big or small?  Are we going to feel helpless and immobilised by fear and/or arrogance, or are we going to realise that we actually have individual control to do our bit, that no man (or woman) is an island and that by standing united and doing the little we are able to do, we will not be defeated? We are all in this together yet we are alone in learning our individual lessons whilst embroiled in an unprecedented survival of the fittest - except this time it’s one of body mind and spirit working in unison.

Could it be that when we acknowledge this hidden gift of true self-reflection and begin to integrate the valuable lessons we have been sent to learn, into our very being, and radiate it out to others and the planet, that then, and only then will our scientific community working together with a united goal and purpose be presented with the medical weapons that will conquer this invisible enemy? And most of all will compassion for ALL of human suffering override the need for self-righteous competition, notoriety and greed by pharmaceutical, technological companies and political leaders manifest our ultimate reward of healing?

Value, appreciate and respect the thousands of people – the earth angels - who are putting themselves at risk, working tirelessly and making personal sacrifices to help, support and comfort those of you or your loved ones in need instead of their own, and/or offering us true and honest guidance and support to keep us all safe and healthy. This is not the time to rebel against the so-called establishment. It time for collective cooperation, to listen and abide by the temporary restriction that have been put in place to keep us all safe, and start to take personal responsibility for how we will get through this crises.

Instead of compalining, perhaps we can perceive thatthe positive impact created by these global lockdowns and social distancing 'rules' are actually giving our planet, our enviornment time to breathe again, and the opportunity to replenish thus healing itself too....

When the student is ready, the teacher will come…. And when the teacher is ready, the student will come…

What lessons are we learning? ...

What lessons are we teaching? …

What ripples are we creating every moment of every day? …

Footnote: The above came to me at the start of the pandemic while I was working in the UK in March 2020. Here we are in June 2021 still experiencing the unnatural new normal we’ve been forced into so I felt it appropriate to share a new song by my very talented brother Lionel Bastos titled “How long” as part of the initial message received.
